Bill Brewer’s International Arbitration Victory for Brunswick Bowling & Billiards
Bill oversaw the firm’s representation of Brunswick in an arbitration proceeding in Hong Kong, where Zhonglu sought more than $100 million from Brunswick based on claims for breach of contract, violations of antitrust laws, and tortious conduct. Following an eight-week final hearing before three arbitrators, the arbitration panel unanimously rejected all of Zhonglu’s claims and entered an award for Brunswick.
In 2009, the firm led a team of Hong Kong solicitors and barristers in successfully defending against Zhonglu’s application to the Hong Kong High Court under Article 34 of the UNCITRAL Model Law – to set-aside the 2007 international arbitration award, the first such application in Hong Kong.
